up a hamburger stand
in San Fransisco,
but he put flowers
between the buns.
People would come in
and say, "Give me a
hamburger with plenty
of onions on it."
Baudelaire would give
them a flowerburger
instead and the people
would say, "What kind
of a hamburger stand
is this?"

"The Flowerburgers" is poem #4 of the poem sequence The Galilee Hitch-Hiker by Richard Brautigan, first published in 1958. Setting and arrangements by Paul Kotheimer. Keyboards, bass, guitar, glockenspiel, lead vocal and backing vocal by PK. Drums by Joey Buttlar, recorded by Colin Althaus at Musek Haus, May 2014. Trumpets by David Tcheng. Ensemble vocals by Ryan Groff and Jacob Barton. Udderbot by Jacob Barton. Finale vocal by Brook Lillard. Final piano chord by Colin Althaus and Emily Otnes, recorded by Colin at his parents' house. Also featuring the voices of Brian Wilson, Richard Brautigan, and of August Vertu reading "Le Serpent Qui Danse" by Charles Baudelaire. This recording attempts to imagine what it might have sounded like if Brautigan had collaborated with The Beach Boys during the Pet Sounds or Smile sessions.
